First, thank you so much to those who commented and sent me good thoughts about my interview! It was today at 3 p.m. and it went amazing! I was SO nervous. It was my very first ever phone interview. The good thing about a phone interview is your "nervous tics" don't work against you because they can't see you!
Ever since I got a call about the interview, I have had massive butterflies in my stomach. Never before have I ever felt so nervous about a position that I have applied for. Fortunately I have plenty of things to distract myself with so it wasn't too horrible of a wait.
The two people who interviewed me were amazingly friendly and put me at ease very quickly. One of them is also a National Board Certified teacher and they praised my pursuit of that certification. She, of course, knows first hand how rigorous it is. They were very impressed when I told them that after finding out I had missed certification by 0.375 of a point that I turned it into a lesson for my 4th and 5th graders because I happened to be teaching thousandths place that week.
The interview lasted about a half an hour, even with a bit of small talk and my question at the end. Within a half an hour, I had a phone call inviting me to participate in the 2nd round!! I was literally speechless. That doesn't happen. Ever. After being in such a limbo position with my placement in my district, this has been such a welcome and validating process.
I will be presenting a short activity/lesson to the committee on Monday or Tuesday of next week and then we will see what happens. I don't want to say too much about the position (ie where it is, etc) just yet because I just want to keep that part under wraps.
If you are so inclined, please continue to think positive thoughts for me about this position. It truly would be like my dream job, even though it is a temporary 1-year position. It would be the best experience of my professional life (so far). Stay tuned for updates!
